A recent survey conducted by The American Liquor License Exchange (AMLEX), a California based food and beverage industry consulting firm, reveals that troubles inundating the banking sector have arrived on the shores of the restaurant industry.

Glendale, CA (IPRWIRE) Mon. June 30th, 2008 -- According to an article that appeared in the Sacramento Bee on June 21, 2008, “Retailers across California have eliminated more than 20,000 jobs in the past year. In greater Sacramento, 900 jobs have disappeared at hotels, restaurants and food-service companies since 2007.”

"The California economy is sputtering," said Jon C Mejia, national sales manager for Amlex. “And based on calls we’re getting from commercial real estate agents, this is just the tip of the iceberg.”

When Amlex asked restaurant operators a series of questions about the economy, a majority of them responded that they are scaling back expansion plans.

“This is as bad as any recession I’ve ever seen,” said one restaurant owner. “It seems more and more people are nesting and cooking at home to save money.”

With gas and other commodity prices exploding, both consumers and operators alike are bracing themselves for what appear to be turbulent financial waters ahead.
